Active field conservation
The Black Tern (Chlidonias niger) is one of the most threatened waterbirds in Poland — a critically endangered species whose last breeding sites are concentrated in the Barycz Valley, including its eastern part. The bird nests on floating vegetation mats in shallow fish ponds and backwaters — habitats that are increasingly disappearing due to hydrological changes and human pressure. Within this project we monitor the species during the breeding season and support habitat restoration through active conservation. Because the species is highly sensitive, we do not publish observation locations. In cooperation with the Wielkopolski Landscape Parks and Stawy Przygodzickie we build and install reed nesting platforms — artificial floating islands where Black Terns can nest safely.
